20th October, 2009. 9:37 pm. Not Dead Yet...

Scenes from the life...

"Do you realize you just asked me 'how hard is it to giggle while you're peeing maniacally?'....?"

This post brought to you by too many hours at work, this week and last.

24th September, 2008. 11:01 am. Though I imagine you have all heard by other channels,

Duke Morguhn Sheriden died on Tuesday evening, of injuries sustained in a fall on Sunday afternoon.

Morguhn was the first King I knew in the Society, and the King who gave me my AoA.  I was honored beyond words when he and his ladies asked me to be a part of their household, and for many years that household was more firmly my home then any other place in the Society or the mundane world.  I was for some years squire and protege to Duchess Rowan, and remain close to her though I no longer wear her belt.

I am, as you might guess, shocked and greiving.  The funeral will be on Saturday, and I, of necessity and at Ro's order, will be elsewhere, doing my duty to my Kingdom, as Morguhn would have wished.

Current mood: crushed.

13th August, 2008. 3:46 pm. Cranky Librarian/Grammar Geek Post...

If you don't know the difference between "illicit" and "elicit", you really shouldn't be doing research on libraries. Really, really, you shouldn't.

And the mental images of that one are going to stay with me for a while...

Current mood: geeky.

25th June, 2008. 3:50 pm. Big Read Meme.

I'm such a sucker for these...

01. Look at the list and bold those you have read.
02. Italicise those you intend to read
03. Underline the books you LOVE
04, Alethea-style.  Strkethrough those you made a good-faith effort to read, and couldn't get into or finish...

Ganked from rufinia , because there are a dozen other things I should be doing right now, but this meme has always intrigued me.

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, italicize the owns you own but have not read (yeah, I'll admit it). you mean to read but haven't yet.  I don't tend to buy things that I know I can get from the library when I get around to them.

Current mood: distractable.

31st March, 2008. 3:54 pm. I can has brain nao, pleze?

or, "Tea: yur doin it rong"

So I just brewed myself a nice big cup of hot water with sugar...and didn't realize until about five minutes later, when I added the milk and it turned white, not brown. FAIL!

In other news...

Did you know that if you have black cats and black bathmats, every so often you will step out of the shower onto a bathmat that grows offended green eyes and stalks off?

Current mood: whimsical.

22nd February, 2008. 12:21 pm. Do Not Want

...snow. Not what y'all are getting south and east, but enough to put an inch or two on the ground. Which would be OK, except that the ice storm-snow-thaw-freeze managed to put three and four inch thick layers of ice in some places. Like, oh, the area by the library and museum open flags.

At the library flag, I went full length onto my back. Not, thank goodness, my tail bone, just a general sprawl, with my fedora at the top, my feet at the bottom, the library flag to the right, and the museum flag plus (empty) book-drop bag to the left.

At the museum flag, I stopped a face-plant into a snowbank with both arms, straining one wrist and the opposite bicep. (how...??)

Ow. Need tea. Need tea now.

3rd January, 2008. 1:19 pm.

The Question of the Day is:
How many librarians does it take to fix a photocopier? (Answer: Just me, but there's a lot a cranky noises involved. And I still don't know what went wrong with the feed--there was no paper jam!--or why it's printing everything very dark.)

My outdoor kit for the last few weeks has been my long Swiss Army coat (I'm suppressing the desire to sew an assortment of useful implements to the inside just because I can...) and grey fedora. I like the fedora a lot, and it's reasonably warm. The trouble is, with the fedora and the army coat...I end up looking like a noir detective.

It gets better. It was freaking COLD today, so I added a pair of driving gloves (grape purple) and my Ravenclaw Scarf, a Harry Potter house scarf the size of a medium sized blanket. And I was wearing my hair pulled back in a pony tail, but it's not really long enough for that yet, so I had a couple of curls escape on each side, looking rather like side locks. The net result...Hasidic private eye in the Potterverse...How do I do these things...?

28th November, 2007. 9:47 pm. This is gonna be brutal...

As part of a team with liamstliam and zarhooie, I'm going to be jumping into Lake George to raise money for Special Olympics. On Saturday.

Yes, I'm woefully behind in my fund raising efforts. Help me not be a total loser, mmmkay? If everyone on my f'list gives me a few dollars, I'll hit my goal and be a happy (if very, very cold) monkey.

Current mood: exhausted.

27th November, 2007. 3:33 pm. Winter Light

I am sitting in my west-facing office, which has some problems during the afternoon with the sunlight light. Today there are scattered clouds, and for the hour just past I have had the occasional shaft of sunlight break free from the clouds and shoot straight over the top of the monitor and into my eyes. This problem lasts longer each day but is not as bad during the summer, when the sun slowly sinks from the top of the window down to the roof of the house opposite--it is only the last little bit of that time that the angle is such that I cannot work at my computer.

This time of year, with the sun so low in the sky, it slips in from the left (south) edge of the window already at eye level, and creeps blindingly along the rooftops until it finally goes below them. Only the clouds today kept me from being chased away from my desk. Then all of a sudden there was light, but not in my eyes. I looked up, and the sun had just dipped behind the building (from my window) but was still lighting up the top of my building, and reflecting from the second story windows onto the house in front of me, making it glow with that honey-rich late afternoon light that you only get late in the year. It was so utterly lovely.

Current mood: calm.
